field order madness: one is even

The DVD Studio Pro 4 User Manual, on page 64, has some interesting new arithmetic:

"The top field is also known as field two, the upper field, or the odd field. The bottom field is also known as field one, the lower field, or the even field."

I wonder if that's just a mistake in the manual, or if the video people - who among other oddities gave us the non-square pixels - also re-invented a better definition of odd and even.
